Conversion

Conversion is a common law tort cause of action. Conversion is when one person acts inconsistently with another person’s ownership rights of the property of another person. To have a cause of action for conversion the 1) plaintiff has to own or have possession of the property; 2) defendant unlawfully exercised control over the property without the permission of the plaintiff, or inconsistently with the plaintiff’s ownership rights; 3) plaintiff requested or demanded return of the property and; 4) defendant did not comply with the request to return or cease use of the property.
