Powers of Attorney

Durable Power of Attorney

A durable power of attorney is when you appoint someone to make important legal business, financial decisions on your behalf. The durable power does not terminate when you become incapable of making your own decisions, in fact, the durable power of attorney can continue to make decisions he or she feels is in your best interest.

In Texas, there are a number of formal requirements to appoint a durable power of attorney so it is wise to consult with an attorney.

Medical Power of Attorney

A medical power of attorney allows you to appoint a family member or friend to make medical decisions on your behalf in the event that you are incapable of doing so for yourself. The person appointed to make these decisions is known as an “agent.” The agent has a lot of discretion in making decisions regarding your health once you have appointed them as a medical power of attorney unless you explicitly limit their authority.
